Koch Family Children's Museum of Evansville presents the Tales & Scales Imagination Lab for Spring Break Camp 2010!  Children ages 5-11 spend the day with our musictellers exploring imaginative storytelling using music, theatre and creative movement.  Camp begins at 9am and ends at 4pm. JOB POSTING: Producing Artistic Director

Tales & Scales seeks a dynamic, visionary and passionate individual to lead the organization as Producing Artistic Director (full-time position, reports to the Board of Directors).

MISSION STATEMENT: Our mission, since 1986, is to ignite, nurture, and fully engage the imaginations of young people through musictelling - a unique blend of music, story, theater, and creative movement.

ABOUT TALES & SCALES: Founded and located in Evansville, Indiana in 1986, Tales & Scales is an innovative professional arts organization that ignites the imaginations of young people through a unique blend of music, story, theater, and creative movement called musictelling. Tales & Scales professional artists maintain a full-time schedule reaching over 20,000 young people each year through performances, classroom workshops, residencies, and an annual summer camp. Tales & Scales tours primarily locally and regionally – but also nationally – to schools, libraries, community centers, arts centers, and periodically performs with symphony orchestras. Tales & Scales, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with 6 full-time employees and an annual operating budget of approx. $228,000. BROAD RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Producing Artistic Director serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Tales & Scales, providing artistic and executive leadership.
  • The Producing Artistic Director will articulate a clear, compelling vision for the future in fulfillment of Tales & Scales’ mission and is responsible for the effective administration of the organization in accordance with the policies of its Board of Directors.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Working collaboratively with board and staff, the Producing Artistic Director will:

  • set and achieve the company’s mission and goals;
  • manage all aspects of recruitment, training, supervision, evaluation and retention of performing and non-performing staff;
  • serve as chief public representative and spokesperson for Tales & Scales;
  • and create and implement effective strategies for fund development initiatives, through both earned and contributed income.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate is:

  • an experienced artistic director and educator in theater and/or music with entrepreneurial skills and energy;
  • is passionate about the importance of providing young people opportunities for arts learning;
  • has experience, enthusiasm and skills forging community partnerships;
  • must have excellent leadership, human relations, time management and communication skills, including interpersonal communication and public speaking with diverse audiences;
  • has a proven track record of managerial experience and ability, including development and oversight of budgets and staff.

Completed master’s degree in performing arts and/or arts education preferred.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • Salary commensurate with experience;
  • benefits include twelve paid holidays, two weeks vacation, health/life/vision insurance, and monthly HSA contribution.

START DATE: June 1, 2010
