The streets of Hamelin resound with the frantic scurrying of rats! Tales & Scales reinvents the time honored story of The Pied Piper with electrifying hip-hop influenced music, lively dance, the colorful poetry of Robert Browning, and their trademark transformations. The oboe becomes a squawking rat, the bass trombone an elaborate trap, and the polyphonic super-flute of the Pied Piper leads everyone who hears it to a land of mystery and delight. Composer Randall Woolf, who wrote the ballet of Where the Wild Things Are, creates an electro-acoustic soundscape with live music, vocal and instrumental sampling, and turntable. In Tales & Scales' new musictale, directed by Cincinnati Conservatory's Michael Burnham, a normal town is turned upside down and a community learns the value of honest and generosity. |
