16th ANNUAL TALES & SCALES CAMP IMAGINATION EXPANDS TO HENDERSON, KY THROUGH PARTNERSHIP WITH THE HENDERSON AREA ARTS ALLIANCE

Henderson, Kentucky, May 15, 2009 – This summer, Tales & Scales will offer their 16th annual Camp Imagination and, for the first time, is expanding the tradition by presenting a week of Camp Imagination in Henderson, Kentucky. In partnership with the Henderson Area Arts Alliance, a week-long session of Camp Imagination 2009 will be held at the Henderson Fine Arts Center from July 20-July 24, 2009. Two additional weeks of Camp Imagination 2009 will be held at the Koch Family Children’s Museum of Evansville, June 29-July 3 and July 6-July 10.

“We are so excited to partner with the Henderson Area Arts Alliance to expand the Tales & Scales Camp Imagination program. Camp Imagination is a long-standing tradition in the Tri-state, and adding this third week in Henderson allows us to reach a greater number of young people in our community and make our program even more fun and accessible for all Tri-state youth!” said Mary Dicken, Tales & Scales Managing Director. Of this partnership, Kyle Arnett, Executive Director of the Henderson Area Arts Alliance said, “We are thrilled to work with Tales & Scales to bring Camp Imagination to Henderson! This summer camp partnership helps the Arts Alliance further its mission to education children through the arts and expand its reach to a broader family audience in anticipation of the launch of our fall family series.”

Begun in 1994, Camp Imagination is a powerful tradition for Tri-state youth ages 6-11, where campers are invited to explore their creativity and become “musictellers” themselves! Campers will explore their creativity and develop their own unique musictelling performances while participating in games and activities led by Tales & Scales artists incorporating storytelling, music, theater, and creative movement. Campers will share their week-long experiences by performing for family and friends on the Friday, July 24. No prior experience with the performing arts is necessary!

Camp Imagination 2009 is a full-day camp for campers ages 6-11 (entering 1st through 6th grades). Camp hours are 9am to 4pm daily, and extended care is available. For more information or to register for Camp Imagination 2009 at the Henderson Fine Arts Center, call the Henderson Area Arts Alliance at (270) 826-5916 or visit www.haaa.org.

Tales & Scales, founded in Evansville in 1986, is an innovative ensemble that ignites the imagination of young people through a unique blend of music, story, theater, and creative movement called “musictelling”. Tales & Scales annually reaches over 50,000 young people, touring original musictelling productions with companion workshops specifically designed for young people in schools, libraries, museums, community centers, and performing arts centers throughout southwestern Indiana and across the nation.

The Henderson Area Arts Alliance is a non-profit organization that presents a season of performing arts events and grants funds to smaller area arts groups and events. The Arts Alliance also programs arts education events in the Henderson County School System for local students K-12. By presenting a season of world-class performing arts events, granting funds to area arts groups, and programming educational opportunities for local students, the Arts Alliance strives to create an increased quality of life in Henderson, promote economic development, create educational opportunities for students, and present a wide diversity of programs at an affordable price.
