Tales & Scales was founded by musicians who sought to make the performing arts more engaging and relevant for children and family audiences. In 1986, Tales & Scales brought together the performing arts of storytelling, music, dance and theater and created a new and unique art form called Musictelling. Using only their bodies, voices and musical instruments, our ‘Musictellers’ (artists professionally trained in music, theater and creative movement) perform magical and engaging Musictales — musical stories based upon popular folk legends, myths and children’s tales. We began performing our Musictales for local elementary school children, and today perform for children and family audiences in 38 states across the nation.
